About the Event

Join other fire explorer posts for a fun day of training at Inver Grove Heights City Hall followed by snow tubing at Green Acres Recreation Area in the afternoon.

Ice Rescue: We'll have the opportunity to work with the Legendary Dan Bernardy.  Explorers should bring a change of warm clothes and extra socks. Dan will be leading a webinar on Thursday, January 11th from 7-8pm for Explorers and Advisors to cover the main safety pieces for our training Saturday.  If you are unable to attend the live webinar we will record the event and we ask that all attendees view the webinar before attending the event Saturday. NOTE: Webinar was recorded and attendees should view before the event on February 24th.

There will be a heated rehab tent available for explorers and advisors along with a portapotty.

We do need posts to bring 1-2 ice rescue suits when possible. (Depending on the total number of registrants we'll be looking to have about 12 suits between the various posts).  If your post does not have suits available we don't want that to be a reason to not attend.

Snow Tubing: Explorers should bring snow pants, boots, jackets, mittens, and hat for snow tubing.  No scarves for tubing.  We will be traveling to Green Acres Recreation Area for snow tubing from 1-3pm.

Food and refreshments: We will have snacks and hot chocolate/water available for advisors and explorers during ice rescue.  Lunch will be provided between the end of ice rescue and snow tubing.  Please let us know if any advisors or explorers have any dietary restrictions.

Registration and cost: The updated registration deadline is Friday, February 16th at 8am.  The cost, thanks to the many generous donors, is $0. However, all explorers and advisors do need to be registered with Northern Star Exploring.

Weather Cancellations/Makeup Date: Due to safety concerns, the event will be cancelled if the temperature is projected to be 0 degrees or lower for the ice rescue portion of our training, or 10 degrees with sustained 10mph winds.  In the events of a cancellation of our new date, we would just need to cancel the event for this year. :(
